Is the Output Lossless?
Yes. PNG is always a lossless format — no additional compression artifacts are introduced during conversion. The output is a pixel-perfect copy of the WebP as it appears. Note that if the original WebP was saved with lossy compression, that existing compression cannot be recovered — but according to the W3C PNG specification, all PNG files are losslessly stored regardless of their source.
Why Is the PNG Larger Than the WebP?
This is normal and expected. WebP uses more efficient compression algorithms than PNG, so the original WebP will always be smaller for the same visual content. Use the PNG for editing, design work, or compatibility purposes — then convert back to WebP when deploying images to a website for performance.
